ANOTHER ‘HORIZONAL-TECHNOLOGY DIFFERENTIATOR’: THE MOBILE WEB BROWSING BOOM!
200% Increase and +60% Penetration by 2015 When CiviGuard set out to disrupt the emergency communication landscape nearly a year ago, we took a risk and invested heavily in several critically important technology development trends. Realizing that in order to be truly innovative and always out front, we determined that a major ‘Horizonal-Technology-Differentiator’(HTD – as we like to call bleeding-edge system development initiatives), within the CiviGuard platform necessarily had to piggy-back on the ever increasing prevalence of mobile Web browsing. The ABI Report: A new industry report by ABI Research demonstrates our investment in ‘HTD’ trends was on the mark and our team of developers capitalized rather well. According to the August 3rd ABI report, “more than 60% of…mobile handsets worldwide will contain mobile Web browsers” by 2015. This represents a two fold increase in the mobile Web browsing penetration rate compared to today. Yep, that’s a strong ‘Wow’-worthy stat by our standards. The Boom of Ubiquity: One of the more exciting and important implications of the coming “boom” in mobile Web browsing is the driving and consequential ramifications. As the ABI Research report explains, mobile browsers “will become nearly ubiquitous and will be included in every mobile handset segment (ULCHs, Low Cost Handsets, Enhanced Handsets and Smartphones), as well as a broad range of other mobile devices: media tablets, MIDs, personal media players, personal navigation devices, gaming devices, and eBook readers.” From Ubiquity to Universal Standard: As a phenomenal post by Mike Melanson in ReadWriteWeb explains, “From laptops and tablets to smart phones, the Web is going increasingly mobile. While not everyone can afford one of these devices, the Web is even creeping onto other, low-cost devices like feature phones and these are becoming increasingly Web-enabled.” It seems clear in the months and years to come, critical functionality and vitally important capabilities like Web browsing will increasingly become a default and standardized offering on smartphones as well as countless other connected devices worldwide. From Perceived to Actual Mobile Norm: As the growth of smartphone adoption continues, as GPS enabled devices increasingly become the norm, another lynchpin – the true advent of mobile Web browsing ubiquity – will continue to drive the underpinnings of a technology future wherein CiviGuard is poised to capitalize by effectively leverage smartphones and any connected device to dramatically enhance disaster response. Oh, we could go on and on about this subject matter but our developers and engineering team might get a big head (especially, since their continued accuracy in identifying and capitalizing on ‘HTD’ continues to be extremely impressive). Perhaps, it is best to simply say that realizing and executing on ‘HTD’ factors continues to provide CiviGuard with a consistent, distinct competitive differentiator for our technology and our platform offerings (no need to drag it out or provide further fodder for our developers, right?)… The full report by ABI Research on mobile browsers is available for your reading pleasure here.
