CONTINUAL CONVERGENCE: MARKET RESEARCH REPORTS - SMARTPHONE GROWTH & GPS UBIQUITY

Two interesting market research reports released this week piqued our interest.

The first report issued by Strategy Analytics cites increasing and continual growth of global smartphone shipments (up 43% in 2Q 2010!) and the second report by iSuppli predicts that 80% of cell phones will have GPS capability in the next year.

As Dr. Jagdish Rebello, director and principal analyst for iSuppli said in an article published in InformationWeek, “The smartphone is the key product driving the technology industry today — and social networking services and applications spurred by GPS-related features are critical elements in the smartphone market today.”

Additionally, Strategy Analytics director Neil Mawston explained, “The global smartphone industry is growing volume but the industry’s value is beginning to feel the effects of intensifying competition.”

So what does this all mean?

Location-based services are increasingly possible as GPS capability becomes a standard integrated core component in connected as well as cellular devices. In turn, as smartphone growth continues to increase around the world, (“global smartphone shipments rose 43% to 60 million units in the second quarter”), firms like CiviGuard and our platform for Emergency Communication 2.0 increasingly reaps the rewards of these important industry and consumer trends.

Competition breeds innovation and it also helps to drive down purchasing costs, spurring on continual consumer adoption rates.

Ultimately, CiviGuard’s mission to provide public and private sector customers the capability to disseminate actionable, contextual information during a crisis becomes an ever increasing cost effective means and an exponentially smart choice!

Just sayin’…
